Today’s Analysts in the Business World
Posted: January 27, 2012 at 6:37 pmBusiness system analysts of today’s time are equipped with two important and very helpful tools for defining the requirements of the project scope: the use case models and the context diagrams. Upon being assigned to a project, the first thing a good business system analyst should do is to confirm that those two exist and that they have been accepted and approved by the stake holders of the project. If they do not exist or if the stake holders have not yet accepted them, the analyst should tackle those first before he or she starts the detailed business system analysis.
Learning about context diagrams and use case models can be achieved through business analysis training. Training programs for prospective analyst students are offered by several educational institutions. Some colleges and universities even offer online training courses. Some companies choose to hire degree holders with background training in business system analysis or individuals who have taken business analysis courses. Other organizations on the other hand, especially those that wanted to nurture and improve the skills of their existing employees who have the right attitude, opt to provide sponsored training on business analysis.
Although proper training in business analysis and system analysis is important to effectively perform the role of a business system analyst, it is an unfortunate fact that many organizations choose people who are not qualified to assume the role of an analyst simply because they trust them. Trust is indeed important, and an analyst will be able to determine the requirements easier if the employees trust him and he knows the business well. However, there are other traits that an analyst must possess such as good analytical, interpersonal and communication skills.
